Mastering

Finishing for streaming and download — with agreed loudness targets, clean metadata handover and secure file delivery, without a trip to Vienna.

Mastering workstation with headphones and outboard gear.

Mastering at Nobodyluno is a defined delivery service: you send a stereo mix or stems, we listen on reference monitors and headphones, set level, tone and sequencing for your release goal, and return finished master files.

Work happens in our Josefstadt control room; upload and feedback are digital. Pre-export questions are answered within 2 business days via contact or [email protected].

How it works

  1. Upload & spec

Mix as WAV without a limiter on the master bus, target platform and reference tracks noted. We confirm format and price before starting.

  2. Analysis

Check spectrum, dynamics, sibilance and mono compatibility. Stem mastering balances groups first, then prints the stereo master.

  3. Master pass

EQ, gentle compression, limiting and LUFS target as agreed. Album jobs get a consistent sound across all titles.

  4. Delivery

WAV (optional MP3 preview), revision rounds per terms. Files archived 24 months, then deleted.

Stereo master vs. stem master

Stereo mastering starts from your final two-track mix — best when the mix is done and you need loudness, last EQ moves and export specs. Stem mastering uses grouped tracks (drums, bass, vocals, rest) when the balance should still move without reopening a long mix session.

Stem mastering is €95 per song and suits dense productions or when individual elements need a final nudge in the master. Stereo entry is €65.

LUFS, true peak and platforms

Streaming services normalize differently; we agree target LUFS and true-peak ceilings with you — usually conservative enough that the track still feels full after platform encoding. Download-only releases can leave a little more headroom.

We note chosen values in the handover email so the next release stays consistent. Deeper format and naming tips are in mastering formats and delivery.

Album package up to twelve songs

The album package (€220 gross, incl. 20% VAT) covers up to twelve tracks of one release. All songs are mastered in one session relative to each other: gaps, relative loudness and tone should feel like one work, not twelve separate uploads.

More than twelve tracks or EP plus bonus material is quoted by track count or time. When mixing happens at our studio, handover formats are coordinated with the mix engineer.

What we expect from your mix

  • Stereo WAV, 24-bit, project sample rate (48 kHz common)
  • No brickwall limiter on the mix bus — about 3–6 dB headroom helps
  • No permanently clipping tracks; DC offset removed
  • Stems: same start point, consistent names, short note on reference level

If the mix is already limited, tell us — sometimes a touch-up works, sometimes we recommend a short mix pass before mastering.

Revisions and feedback

Up to 2 revision rounds are included per job when changes stay within the agreed loudness and tone frame. Completely new references or a fresh mix count as a new pass and are billed separately.

Please bundle notes (timestamp or section) rather than drip feedback — that keeps scheduling predictable. Timing details are in the terms; general questions also in the FAQ.

Delivery formats and metadata

Default: 24-bit WAV master; optional dithered 16-bit for CD manufacturing by arrangement. MP3 preview for approval only, not a substitute for WAV. DDP or Red Book layouts are not automatic — say so before we start if you plan physical media.

ISRC, UPC and credits are entered at your distributor; we do not provide legal advice on rights. Data processing: privacy policy and optional DPA for B2B.

How this differs from mixing and production

Mastering does not replace mixing: weak separation, harsh vocals or bass issues are only treated within mastering limits, not as a full remix. Titles mixed here often go internally to our mix & master engineer — you may also send any external mix.

Still arranging and tracking? Start with music production or vocal recording; mastering belongs at the end of the chain.

How should I send large files?

Use a cloud or transfer link to [email protected]. We confirm receipt and fixed price before work starts.

Do you master podcasts?

Podcast loudness is a different workflow — see podcast production. Music mastering is for songs and albums.
