Goal: one track per voice
At our table on Lerchenfelder Straße 14 we record hosts and guests multitrack — edit and export included. Home setups often fail with a single mixed track: coughs, overlap, and level swings are hard to fix later. Plan at least one track per person, ideally with local recording instead of only a cloud call.
Our episode package (€190 for two hours) or hourly rate €75 incl. 20 % VAT suits teams without a control room. Six-episode season: €680 when guests and editorial calendar are fixed.
Mic choice and distance
Dynamics tolerate noisier rooms; condensers give detail but want quieter space. Keep about a hand’s width from the pop filter, speak slightly off-axis. Table taps and cable rustle show up in edit — boom arms help.
Across our 3 rooms cable runs and headphone monitoring are dialed in; at home give everyone headphones so nobody shouts. Spoken-voice warm-ups in vocal prep before session help moderators too.
Acoustics without construction
First move: soft surfaces between mic and hard walls. Bookshelves, blankets, a rug under the chair change tone more than a random box with no placement. Avoid tiny alcoves with long flutter echo — common in Vienna altbau flats.
Portable absorbers behind speakers help; reflection filters around the mic do not replace room treatment but shorten the direct path. Clap test: if tail lasts more than half a second, add damping or shrink the setup.
Urban noise habits
Traffic, construction, and neighbours are normal in Wien. Record in daytime windows when possible, close windows, switch off fridges and fans — note when tram rumble sits in the background. Consumer earbuds as a guest’s only path add codec artifacts; wired headphones or a studio slot matter for key interviews.
Here, treated walls, split tracks, and an engineer at the desk remove much of that stress. Directions: Take U6 to Josefstädter Straße, then walk about 6 minutes along Lerchenfelder Straße toward the inner city to number 14. Alternatively tram line 5 to Lerchenfelder Straße/Neubaugasse, then a short walk.. Hours: Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–16:00, closed Sunday.
Remote guests without doubling the room
When a guest is remote, keep local and remote audio separate: host at the table on track one, remote feed on its own path — no speakerphone bleeding into room mics.
Ask guests for a local backup (phone memo, second device) if the line drops. In studio we balance remote and in-room mics; all-remote shows with mismatched sources often need mixing afterward.
Checklist before episode one
- Per person: mic, headphones, own track, power/backup
- Room: soft surfaces, no echo corner behind the chair
- Run sheet: intro, outro, music rights cleared
- 60-second test, checked on headphones
- Filename with date and episode number
Music and guest releases: see terms and disclaimer — we are not lawyers, but we will not publish without cleared usage.
When studio beats DIY
Series with rotating guests, panel formats, or brand shows benefit from consistent sound and up to 6 seats with an engineer. One studio day can cost less than weekly rescue edits on noisy living-room files.

What comes next
After capture: edit, platform loudness, export — often in the same episode package. Custom stingers may need music production. Release-ready masters for intro music: mastering formats and delivery.
